Dave, Stuart and Kieron first met in first year at University, when they used to get drunk and play acoustically late into the night in a student hall in Clifton. Having successfully persuaded Stuart to spend his first year student loan on a drum kit, they set about forming a band and writing songs together. Everyone wrote songs and they were adept at adding to and elevating each other’s ideas well beyond their imaginings. It was a nice, communist kind of working with everyone contributing their own bits, although usually only one person wrote the lyrics.

A year or so of playing together and they managed to put together enough for a few well-received gigs around Bristol. At their best they had about 2 ½ hours of material. It all ended really when Stuart decided he had to follow his other dream and try to set up a Tai Chi school in Cornwall. Facing up to the fact that drummers around Bristol couldn’t marry disco and Iron Maiden in the same song it all slowly faded and while Dave still palmed himself off as Snow Crash for some time, he’s now realised that he needs to find his own name, so ‘My Mate Dave’ was born.
