Biography

Pensacola, Florida, USA (2011 – 2014)

Slowpoke Rodriguez is a southern/stoner/doom metal band formed in Pensacola, Florida, USA in April of 2011. The band was formed by vocalist Beav Kenoyer when he contacted his old friend Matt Boyden and asked if he was down to work on some sludgy riffs with him. The two then wrangled Beav’s roommate, Brandon McKendrick (Keith Stone) to play drums, and the trio was on their way. For about two weeks, Grant Scott played rhythm guitar, but then he left due to a hectic work schedule. He was replaced by Brandon “Big Werm” Keenan on bass guitar. Big Werm left the band in June of 2011 due to conflicting musical interests and was quickly replaced by Jeff Walton. After a few more months, the band decided due to musical differences that they were going to part with Jeff and in April of 2012 recruited Greg Hammac (ex Netherborn) to join on bass.

The band was scheduled to have their first tour in August of 2012, even snagging a spot on Atlanta’s Nophest. However, Brandon decided to quit the band right before the tour, so it got canceled, A month later, Andy May replaced Brandon on drums and Jeff came back on bass. After this the band decided to drop the southern sounding songs from their roster, and are planning on progressing forward in a more traditional stoner/doom direction.

The 4-piece is playing plenty of local shows, opening for such headliners as Goatwhore, The Sword, Black Tusk, Immortal Guardian, Jucifer, Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster, Riotgod, Gloominous Doom, Confused Little Girl, His Name Was Yesterday, Poisonwood, Fair To Midland, Mose Giganticus, and others. They are recording their debut EP this December, with a planned release for January of 2013.
