Just to clear things up: 1. Trout Mask Replica was made by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band 2. TMR is one of the most profound albums ever realeased and its greatness cant be understated. 3. Nils is an amazing singer.

Because how dare I think someone that released ~100 albums in his career have low points! I don't think hardly any person/band could consistently put out albums as great as One Size Fits All, he was just human like the rest of us.

Sanity_Theorist sounds awfully confused

Difference is, Frank Zappa had some awful moments...I'm a fan, but Trout Mask Replica is easily one of the worst albums I've EVER heard. Fortunately, he has 40+ albums of phenomenal tracks. The spoken parts on Of Natural History aside, these releases are consistently fascinating.

Couldn't agree more with MisterJunior.

"Weak and cheesy?" These are incredible musicians. Their shtick isn't for everybody, granted, but to deny their chops is just ignorant. It's sort of like Frank Zappa: You can dislike his sense of humor and his persona as a performer, but you'd be a fool to say he was musically incapable.

Bring Back The Apocalypse puts the matter to rest.
11 May 2015, 12:50am
I can agree on them trying too hard sometimes, but weak and cheesy is just ridiculous.
9 May 2015, 2:28pm
Well avant-garde isn't for everyone. Awesome band!
9 May 2015, 3:18am
Not sure it's cheesy as much as it is dark humor and horror...hard to tell what they're going for at times, though.
6 May 2015, 9:31pm
This band tries waaay too hard to be original and the result is a weak and ridiculously cheesy attempt at avant-rock. They were entertaining to see live, though.
30 Mar 2015, 3:08am
Of Natural History might be more avant-garde than Unexpect...my head needs severe un-fucking right now haha. Sleep is Wrong is wonderfully demented, though!
17 Feb 2015, 4:52pm
THis is what it takes to be too avant-garde for me, it seems haha

Fascinating music!

I remember when I first discovered this band with the Helpless Corpse Enactment music video... It was right before I got into Death Metal, so this band scared the shit out of me at first and I was also still coming out of christianity so I had the subconscious fear that music like this was evil and satanic, even though I consciously knew that was bullshit. Came back after I got into Death Metal and fell in love.

By the way, does anybody know of any interviews or anything of that sort regarding the various recordings thrown in by Nils? The ones with...interesting people saying interesting things. A part of me NEEDS to know the story behind all of that.
9 Feb 2014, 1:36pm
Those curious as to 'where they are,' I suggest looking up some interviews with a little act known as Free Salamander Exhibit

Best ever! Can´t stop listening... There are chords and sounds where are more meaning than in most of bands biography!

The fullness of time has come to experience the promised Grand Closing. A collapse into obscurity is not an option. Not in my book. The Museum must rise again.

When will the new album come out? Aaarrgh... If Scott Walker wouldn't have released his new album I don't know what I would listen to..

Yes, about that movie and last album? This band appeared to disappear around a year ago....
24 Sep 2012, 5:40pm
Whatever happened to the movie and last album?
5 Sep 2012, 4:27pm
I liked how Dave Shamrock always plays drums on the first album of each new band. He played in the first Acid Rain album, too, which is technically early Idiot Flesh.
