Biography

Citing inspiration from My Bloody Valentine, Kraftwerk, and 80’s soundtrack hero John Carpenter to Trans Am and M83, Sleepy Eyes of Death fill the gap between ambient shoegaze and computer-damaged instrumental epics. With intentions of creating a wall of analog induced sound thick enough to bury their listeners, Sleepy Eyes of Death employ an array of a half dozen different types of keyboards (often simultaneously) with that of heavily constructed doses of effected guitar. While often relying upon stark drum machine beats for pacing, live drums give way to flourishes of energy and mathematical fluidity throughout their sets. In addition to their music, Sleepy Eyes of Death are devoted to synchronized smoke, light, and cinematic accompaniment at all of their shows.

SEOD wring emotion out of sound with wailing synths, persistent guitars and punishing, precise drums.”
Donte Parks / URB MAGAZINE

“Runner-up for Performer of the Year in Sound’s Best of the Northwest 2008 - Sleepy Eyes of Death has proven it can put on one hell of a live show.”
Michael Connelly / SOUND MAGAZINE

“Fantastically full of fuzzed out, synth-heavy shoegazing post rock… Spacey, soaring, cinematic songs, seemingly inspired by the nexus of new wave and krautrock .”
AQUARIUS RECORDS

“A stunning live show that screams like 1980s horror movie soundtracks and doesn’t discard the emotional baggage.”
Clint Goulden / PERFORMER MAGAZINE

“A wondrous array of keyboards, thumping drums, and enough atmospheric hum to channel Kevin Shields’ most creative moments and M83’s early shoegaze haunt. …highly recommended.”

Anyways, these are my unbiased opinions. Around the net everyone labels em as post-rock. Whatever they are... it is teh pwnage!

Cuz it's shoegaze with space rock mixed in it (and of course electronics). Post rock is constantly confused with space rock. One of the signature sounds such as, "fast high pitch picking w/ echo effects" found in all post rock actually originated in space rock. Being an avid listener of both styles, i have come to believe there is little to no post-rock influence.

"It's no m83." Why do people keep comparing bands that may sound like they're trying to sound alike? It's likely that they aren't, in fact this music sounds more to me like Black Moth Super Rainbow and Zombi than anything else, just because they're influenced by M83 doesn't mean they are going to sound like them/be as good as M83 at what they do.
