I just realized that not only do I have far more plays of Nine Destinies And A Downfall than any other Sirenia album, but also any Tristania album. I'm the actual absolute worst gothic metal listener in the world
v I was believing in Ailyn but she regressed so much that did not make me listen to their latest albums, but about the Nightwish, I never got to like the voice of Anette, i think her voice horrible, however Floor Jansen was always a great vocalist, i like her, so my dear, this is not living in the past, is that the first vocalist manages to make the band a philosophy of life, it is a task to get used to the new singers, for me in the case of Sirenia was different, i liked the performance of Monika...
She may not be the most skilled vocalist, but I find Ailyn's voice a good mesh with the music and very soothing to listen to. I usually go for her era albums when I need something from Sirenia, although I love Nine Destines and a Downfall too. Lol, and i say this as someone who originally knows Ailyn from her J-pop karaoke cover days and nearly had a heart attack when they announced her as the lead vocalist of a band like Sirenia!
Well, for that matter Winter Land sounds like a weird mash up between Roberta Flack and Loretta Goggi. Btw, at first I was less than thrilled by The Seventh Life Path, but the more I listened to it, the more interesting stuff I discovered. It's a grower.
Mostly agree with Archanoth. I do think it's the only thing to come close to the first two albums in melody and atmosphere (I think it does a good job of it too) and I do prefer Ailyn's voice and verses to Henriette's or Fabienne's. It's received a lot of positive feedback but I don't think it will change in many minds that it is Sirenia's best in over a decade (or even best ever).
I'm a big fan of the first 2 albums, and I find the new album to be as good as those albums, if not better. While being maybe less melodic and atmospheric, it's more progressive and much more intricate and complex. That being said, Stille Kom Døden is still my favorite Sirenia song and not many songs from the new album (or older ones) come close to that level of awesomeness.
So is everyone still loving this album then? I kind of forgot about it tbh since it takes a while to get into and i haven't had the time recently. Now that the initial hype has worn off how are people ranking it compared to the last few album then?
2spikedylacid - he talk about this in almost each single interview - because this question is very popular and pepole dont read any interviews and ask it again and again +((((( well its because he said 'i was always a fan of the sisters of mercy and fields of the niphilim' !!!!!!!! is it clear
maybe he feels that validates him as a metal composer. maybe its because of his past in the gothic rock scene (with Elusive). I much prefer the integration and interplay of female/male/growled vocals into single songs which is a lot more interesting than one song with just one of those vocal styles by itself.
VV If I recall correctly she released a j-pop album (or albums) with a group called Charm. I searched Youtube and it seems they were spanish versions of japanese songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xa7gol4L2ts
