Seven Years!
14 Feb 2012, 23:24 by princess_mischa
It's amazing to think that I've been on this site for so long. And also that many of my top artists and songs haven't changed much in the last few years. Hopefully in another year or two I might start seeing more change, but hopefully just going to the Top 10 instead of Top 5 might continue to help that a little.
Top Artists:
1. The Cure - 6,175
2. Interpol - 3,584
3. Nick Drake - 2,501
4. Doves - 2,327
5. Sigur Rós - 1,753
6. TV on the Radio - 1,737
7. Franz Ferdinand - 1,485
8. Blonde Redhead - 1,459
9. Coldplay - 1,453
10. Architecture in Helsinki - 1,018
It seems like I really listened to those first six artists a lot in the first few years. They've not changed much. I can see that Coldplay has again fallen two places, but that's not very surprising. I got a bit burnt out on them about a year or so ago, so I'm taking a break from their music. I'm also still surprised that Architecture in Helsinki are still hanging on. … -

Amatorski @ AB review 29 january 2012
30 Jan 2012, 13:12 by ElBandido
Sun 29 Jan – Amatorski
As one of the most interesting recent bands in Belgian music, it's interesting to see the directions Amatorski decides to take. They started out at Humo's Rock Rally and got widespread attention for their folky popsong "Come Home". Although the other tracks on the ep were already more reminiscent of Scandinavian post-rock.
The first single "Soldier" from their debutalbum TBC seemed a step in yet another direction: postrock with triphop/dubstep flavour. Yet again, the rest of the album seemed to follow a less spectacular genre change. Yesterday evening the spirit of their "idols" Sigur Rós was everpresent. The show was presented as "Concert + film". The film were just visuals projected on two screens, one in front of the band, one behind. This created some nice effects, but I must say I expected a bit more. The screen in front did remind me of Sigur Rós. They started off with Soldier, which sounded good… -

Outstanding Gigs of 2011 (with videos)
6 Jan 2012, 21:24 by TheAlexH
Ordered by date, below are the most outstanding gigs I attended in 2011, along with the occasional video and photo I took at them.
28/01/11
Mélanie Pain
Jazz Café, London
A largely wonderful semi-acoustic set, with just Mélanie, a guitarist and keyboardist/pianist, which made a nice change from a full band and suited the songs well. I loved this gig!

14/02/11
Jonny
The Deaf Institute, Manchester
Great stuff...Doctor Rhythm seemed a bit temperamental but Norman and Euros were definitely playing up to that which added to the laughs. Fantastic sounding vocal harmonies, good songs and great interaction between the duo. I've never seen so many smiling people at a gig. If you're wondering, Doctor Rhythm is a cheap drum-machine.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
Manchester Academy 2
Awesome sounding at times. One of the new songs, Summer Of Dead Souls, was a highlight. …
