Ný batterí (8:08)

From Ágætis byrjun and 13 other releases

“Ný batterí” (Icelandic for “new batteries”) is a song by Sigur Rós, released as the second single from their album Ágætis byrjun in May 2000.

The cymbal used in “Ný batterí” was found on a street in downtown Reykjavík. The instrument was bent and had apparently been driven over. However, they liked the way it sounded and wrote the song from there.

Me and my cousin had travelled to London from Sweden and we spent the entire day walking around London to see all the sights. The weather was shit as you should expect from London and for some reason we didn't take the tube. We walked about 30 kilometers that day and the day ended with a Sigur Rós concert at the Brixton Academy. Our feet pounding and hurting so much we had to take off our shoes to be able to stand without the pain being to excruciating. After Yfirborð this song started and never have I been so relieved of physical pain. Fuck, I love this song and this band. [2]
