(For the Finnish composer, please retag your music as Jean Sibelius.)

SIBELIUS is a Venezuelan Project. Founded in 2004, fundamentally based on instrumental neo-classic musical tendencies. Philipp Scheer, its founder and the Group’s Guitar, received classic musical instruction at a very early stage of his life.

Philipp originally decided to study and specialize in Violin, but a severe wrist fracture at the age of sixteen rendered him unable to continue. Despite frustration with the injury, his commitment to music led to broader aspirations. He studied Drums for a number of years, playing with diverse bands, incurring a knowledge of non classical music. As time passed and his musical prowess grew, Philipp had a strong desire to return to strings. He began to compose and learn other instruments, eventually choosing the electrical guitar as his favorite. His guitar playing combines classical techniques with the versatility learned while studying drums.

Profound studies, techniques and exercises practiced in violin render it easier to apply and play the Electrical Guitar. Also, thanks to the musical experience with other instruments ,performances at concerts, for example in Mexico, chamber music, philharmonic orchestras, participation in events with diverse number of groups….,render the birth of an IDEA … To CONCENTRATE all of the above INTO ONE, by joining and integrating Classic music and Rock, placing the Electric Guitar into a concept equaling a Violin Concerto. All of this gives way to the birth of the Group “SIBELIUS”.

Wow, too much anger. I happen to like the Venezuelan project AND the composer. Hasn't anyone heard of a tribute band? People so in love with a composer's output that they want to perform the pieces they love with their own unique style that they've developed? Chill out.

It's pretty easy to disambiguate; you use the composer's name for the composer (artist]Jean Sibelius, and this name for the band. The silly snobbery of various people writing here is in uneasy contrast with their rudeness in using only his surname. And why should a gadget's limitations be allowed to override common sense? I have never heard the music of this band, so have no vested interst either way -- just a commitment to good sense and good manners. (It's depressing that some people who claim to love Jean Sibelius' music are so childish in their responses here.)

Anyone have thoughts on how to disambiguate the band and the composer? I am new to, i use musicbrainz "composer as artist" nomenclature, but only use last name for conciseness (given constrained UI on ipod etc). There doesn't seem to be a way to dislike the band page for example. Any constructive input? thanks

@elguerrero22 Because they hijacked his name and because bands in general are infinitely inferior to this man's accomplishments, therefore deserving no association with a true genius.

... why the complaining on the the band's name on the cd clearly says: " This Project is named in honor of this great composer" JOHAN JULIUS CHRISTIAN SIBELIUS

i always wonder how stupid you have to be to name your rock band "beethoven", "bach", "mozart" "sibelius" or sth like that

Sibelius (only the lastname) is the name of a progresive metal band from Venezuela. Jean Sibelius is the correct name for the composer. This name must be the one for the venezuelan band.
