10 Jun 2013, 21:34 by fdunihoThe sidebar in my profile gives a brief synopsis of my taste in music, but it doesn't explain anything in detail. First, I usually listen to music to accompany other activities rather than setting aside periods of time to just listen to music. So, one of the most important factors affecting what I listen to is what I'm doing. I commonly listen to music while writing, reading, working, and exercising. For reading, I like to listen to music that helps me focus. For focusing, I often prefer instrumental music, though music with lyrics is fine as long as my attention isn't drawn to them too much. A steady rhythm, such as found in rock or fusion, often helps me focus, but when I'm already focused and just need to avoid distractions, ambient music can be best. For writing, working, and exercising, I often enjoy something that helps me move. In general, much of the music I listen to has to be good for focusing and moving. Other factors that are important to me are intellectual interest, emotional appeal…

24 Aug 2009, 12:24 by fmeraFollowing up on the earlier journal, Getting Artist Images to Look Their Best, here is a short guide to explain how images (be they square, tall, or wide) that you upload to artist galleries are cropped for eventual use in the library.
I'll use these images (taken from Simone Kopmajer's gallery) as a visual guide to show how your original artist pics will end up looking as library images. It works on the idea that cropping images square or tall - if your original shots allow this - really is the safer option, as they minimize further cropping when your images are processed. Shown below are three sample images, in square, tall, and wide formats, and beside them the actual 126s images used for the library. The translucent red masking shows where image content will be lost (or hidden from view, rather), and the window is what you'll end up with in the library:

17 May 2008, 08:34 by abbagirlBeen a while since I did one of these. Fifty lines from songs, and your job is to guess what songs they are from the lyrics. The lyrics are separated into groups of ten so it's easier to read through the list.
1. I know it sounds funny, but I just can't stand the pain.
2. Tried to hitch a ride to San Francisco.
3. I recommend walking around naked in your living room.
4. I walk the lonely streets, I watch the people passing by.
5. For all the joy you brought to my life.
6. I pretend that I'm glad you went away.
7. A spirit that won't let me go.
8. I get a little closer to feeling fine.
9. Me and some guys from school had a band and we tried real hard.
10. Dream on, white boy. Dream on, black girl.
11. Are you gonna take me home tonight?
12. You see I think about it all the time, I'll service the community.
13. You were the victim of your crime, I left you behind.
14. Don't be afraid to come back to me.
15. Your ocean refuses no river.
16. Am I the only one who noticed? I can't be the only one concerned.

SINGING PI...and MASSIVE BALLERINA
So I made the mistake of mentioning the idea for a song to Sinead O'Connor, and Kate Bush ended up stealing it.
Well, maybe. A few years ago (when I was writing for the music mag, see other posts below) I was interviewing Sinead O'Connor, and we were talking about how songs originate, and I mentioned that I'd had a dream where a person was singing the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard... the song was perfect, it was mysterious, and it was endless.
It was the number pi.
But in the dream the song didn't feel dry, abstract or mathematical; it was very emotional and meaningful and passionate... and you weren't even really able to hear the numbers, it was more a connection to the energy conveyed through the syllables of the words of the numbers... …

I want to hear a jam. Thats why nowadays my profile changed.
