Lamprog I think I understand that. Hidden Lakes especially is such a song, for me. ;) And sorry to disappoint you, "lampróg" is just the Irish word for firefly, so no hommage to Lambchop. :D
Thursday evening -
TheHochhaus indeed, Lamprog (btw is this name a hommage to lambchop?) anyway I could see the sky even when I was looking to the ground and just listen...

Lamprog A beautiful quote from Daytrotter: "It's those moments that Meiburg tends to bring us to the most, in Shearwater songs - those places that demand that we just sit down and shut up. We're supposed to just listen to the house breathe, to us breathe within the spine, the elbows and the eaves of a breathing house. We should hear the water drip like an embarrassing afterthought in the sink, just as the blood drips unexpectedly from our nose - both proof that things are broken and still alive at the same time."

Lamprog @TheHochhaus: Well, that is nice! There is nature in their music, isn't there? Wide open spaces and lots and lots of sky. :)

xJake_Guitarx "Animal Joy" is simply beautiful. One of the best albums of the year, no doubt! It honestly, should be way more popular than it should be. It's just perfect!

TheHochhaus easier by letting me breath air without opening any windows and thereby getting a cold ;)

smiddy012 intense live band, this band is so much more about instrumentals than OR. definitely got more of a rock vibe than i was expecting.

fekko from the very first listning: animal joy is kind of consequent according to the ones before and therefore disappointing to me. what i really love about the old ones is this sketchieness. and although i basically like their arrangements, it gets more and more in direction of ordinary and overproduced indie-rock-bands. i miss even some extensive parts focusing on jonathans outstanding voice.

palaver Might be too early to tell, but I'm going to say this is the best album of 2012. Been a Shearwater fan since the start and "Animal Joy" is by far the best.
March 2012 -
jurlacher SXSW 2012 live download. Jonathan and Lucas only, stripped down versions of songs. Palo Santo, Dread Sovereign, Run The Banner Down, Rooks, Hail Mary, I Was A Cloud
March 2012 -
antonijover Why don't "Rook" and "Animal Joy" appear listed as Shearwater albums, according to Last.fm? Shame!

TheHochhaus more music = Shearwater fills hardcore cruise control needs I didn't realize I had = more happiness.
March 2012 -
Punk-Fiction Animal Joy feels like hardcore cruise control.

mister_magpie "The joy is real! One more time, it's real!"

The--Kid animal joy is a living breathing monster, it's soo good, as for the vs. okkervil river argument, it shouldn't exist, both great bands in their own right, they are different that is why they are doing different things! more music=more happiness

hoaxfuneral1 Scala in London, April 3rd, yay!!
March 2012 -
hoaxfuneral1 The new album is gorgeous...can't wait to see you guys again (hopefully soon).
March 2012 -
smiddy012 Shearwater is basically Okkervil River but with more traditional, less emo vocals/themes, plus more folk & classical influenced instrumentals (which are better IMO). My favorite song of Okkervil is Westfall and I find Shearwater has a more similar sound to that, which is why I prefer Shearwater.
March 2012 -
jkade It really depends on what you're looking for. Okkervil doesn't really satisfy any emotional need of mine. Shearwater fills needs I didn't realize I had.
March 2012 -
cdax2307 No fucking way is this better than Okkervil River.
March 2012 -
Legeboka can't stop listening to Animal Life! Bravo!

GingerDang Love the new album, such an emotional singer, gives me the chills
February 2012 -

ahprahran I do love the way they've emphasised the drums and guitars on the new record. The album seems bolder, stronger somehow. Can't wait to see them play in Glasgow in April. Jonathan has such a gorgeous voice... x

antonijover Having heard it quite a lot of times during the last week I have to say it's definitely a great album!
February 2012 -
usuallee New to this band. Discovered their their latest, Animal Joy, gratefully so, on Mog. Love it. Their talent, dark intensity, and tunefulness is exactly my style. Animal Joy has already earned a spot on my best of 2011 list.
February 2012 -
HezzardNL Animal Life is the greatest song of 2012 so far!
February 2012 -
Utt-Anton New album is amazing, the only thing i could wish for is more keyboards.
