South Wales (2007 – 2013)

She Ripped were a band formed in 2007 from South Wales. They consisted of Jake Healy (guitar, vocals), Thomas Williams (bass) and Rhodri Cox (guitar) and are accompanied by a drum machine who is known fully as Doctor Chris Rhythm. In 2013, after ditching the drum machine and getting an actual real-life drummer they changed their name to New Cowboy Builders.

Their debut release, 2007’s Canis Lupus Familiaris EP, was written and recorded solely by Jake, who’s also currently half of transatlantic noise duo Pink City. In the summer of 2007, Jake drafted in Thomas Williams and Rhodri Cox for live performances and future releases. With the three-strong lineup, the band released 2007’s More Welsh Misery EP. After the release of the second EP, She Ripped played a few shows around the South Wales area, many of which received negative receptions, with one gig disintegrating into a competition to see who in the audience could do the best farm animal impression. After the gigs, She Ripped began working on their first full length, titled On The Surface. They played what was intended to be their last show on August 25th 2009, the day of On the Surface’s release.
Then in early 2011 they reformed, deciding to try and work around complications of geography, recording demos throughout University semesters and sending them to each other before practising the new work in any time off.
