London, England, United Kingdom (1975 – 1978, 1996 – 1996, 2002 – 2008)

Sex Pistols are a band that formed in London, England, United Kingdom in 1975, coming out of the ashes of The Strand. They are, together with The Clash, responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Although their initial career lasted just two-and-a-half years and produced only four singles plus one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks Here’s the Sex Pistols, they are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of modern popular music.

The band is comprised of vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock. Matlock left the band in 1977 and was replaced by Sid Vicious, who remained until the band’s initial 1978 breakup. Matlock rejoined the band for their 1996 reunion and has remained with them throughout most subsequent reunions, including the most recent, in 2008.

Sex Pistols were managed by the infamous Malcolm McLaren, after he saw Johnny Rotten sporting a Pink Floyd shirt with “I hate” scribbled on. Impressed by Johnny Rotten’s attitude, McLaren brought Rotten to audition for frontman of The Strand, the band that would later become the Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols have been described by the BBC as “the definitive English punk rock band” and are widely credited with initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and creating the first generation gap within rock and roll.

Yeah, I respect the influence and impact they had. But the album definitely isn't something I could ever listen to regularly. They had the attitude, but the music isn't that good. And that's the part that actually matters.

I'm not sure why people think that's so weird. There's not some particular order you're supposed to discover genres in. It's not like punk is the top of some ladder you ascend haha.

v I just don't like punk as much as I once did. It did the trick when I went through a punk phase in high school. But when i was like 19 and got heavily into metalcore, death metal, and emo, I never really got back into it. Still much respect to some artists though. NOFX is probably my favorite band.

"I can't believe I used to like this trash. Most punk just flat out sucks. I'll take pop punk and emo any day to be honest. This was my shit when I was like 16 though." - what the fucking fuck

Their album is really a must have for all music fans in general. It's one of those standard works that defined a genre and an era. @cylob: Don't be too harsh on hairymetaldude. He almost exclusively listens to Nickelback, so he can't help asking questions like that. :)
