Biography

Formed in Los Angeles in 2002, originally under the name The Duration.
Severe Severe consists of Nico Jordan (guitar, synth, loops, voice, percussion) & Mike Capritta (bass, synth)

Influenced by a wide range of artists including Sonic Youth, Big Black, Can, Savage Republic and Joy Division, Severe Severe employs rhythms that sometimes require acclimation by the listener, but they reward the effort with a surprising consistency and quality over the length of a song.

In 2005 their first demo was recorded and their song “The Southern Barrier” was featured on Makeshift Music compilation #4 along with a diverse array of other Memphis based artists.

Severe Severe’s first album “Beyond the Pink ” was released in 2008. Among the songs to be featured on the record, “Awakening Fire” displays some of the characteristic traits of their sound - tight, driving drumming, relentless movement in the guitar and bass punctuated by short bursts of emotional/electrical release, and the kind of economy of sound and wiry presentation that has its roots in the better post-punk bands of the early 80s.

In 2010 their song “The Southern Barrier” was featured again, this time on the MTV series Savage County.

Their sophomore album “Break up the Dance” (summer 2011) expands beyond the traits of their earlier recordings, incorporating Indian Tanpura, electronic samples, and darker, harder hitting songs.

Related projects include The Duration and Victory Mansion.
