Seth Horan is a touring singer/songwriter. And there are thousands of those.
He left RCA band Vertical Horizon in 1998, right on the brink of that bands multi-platinum success, and decided to play his songs alone on his bass rather than pick up the traditional six-string acoustic guitar hailed as the universal standard for songwriters. He did this to push the envelope of modern songwriting and performance; he did it to see how far he could go while still being accepted by the mainstream; he did it to explore a new sound in a market that becomes more homogenized every day. But most importantly, he did it because he has been a bass player since he was twelve years old, and he really, really, really sucks at guitar.

Originally hailing from Buffalo NY, he has been touring the USA (literally) since March of 2002, building a sizable following and turning heads with his blend of fingerpicking, slapping, tapping, harmonics, and chording to accompany his voice. To say that Horan plays the bass like a guitar is a vast understatement. More to the point, he plays it like a dulcimer, a drum set, a harp, and a xylophone all at the same time.

This quote from the Ocean City Beachcomber sums it up: “He plays solo bass guitar like Victor Wooten, sings songs like John Mayer and Ani DiFranco, and performs with the intensity of Martin Sexton. Hes a freak of nature, and hes phenomenal.”

For the last five months of 2008, Horan opened the production process up to his mailing list, offering bonafide production credit to anyone who invested in the creation of his next work. Each week for twenty weeks, Horan emailed his “producers” an MP3, which they would rate and give feedback on.

Ok. It might be nothing, but i somtimes feel same hmm or fall in a same emotional state when listen to John Wesley. Two first albums of his, was recorded with Sean Malone, and have lots of acoustic songs to, so i listen his songs for the same reason as Yours. Because i like the voice (good technically but not without heart), i like the lyrics (simple but not dumb and with meanin but not pompous) and i like the BASS. And i think it would be nice for me to hear both in one radio just say whadaya think (i actually played your radio today and really there was You and jazz bass soloists, to it's just eee... wrong :)

Hi folks!! Please help me out by TAGGING me and my songs. I really need to shake this "jazz" label that Last.fm has thrown on me, and the way to do that is by having my listeners teach the site how to categorize me. That's what tags are for! Please take a moment and tag me here on my Artist page -- possible tags could be "singer-songwriter", "pop", "rock", or "sounds like (other artist here)". Please don't use "bass" or "solo bass", as those seem to be just as good as "jazz". I appreciate the support!! Thank you for listening!! All the best... Seth :]

It was 10 years ago today, on March 2, 2002, that I played the first gig of a tour that would end up lasting approximately three and a half years and changing my life forever.  I think …
