Based both in Ann Arbor as well as Detroit, the group frequently culls talent instrumentation for the various productions from the respective scenes. Through Thomas, the group’s major songwriter, the group creates intricate soundscapes which harken back to Detroit soul, such as Motown, as well as some of the better recordings by The Beach Boys and productions of Phil Spector.

@mrmocha i love the pretty twee female songs, but fred thomas sings on some of their best songs and it doesn't take anything away. I think you have to take them as a whole. Witness "Come With Your Arms", "Last Hour", "Peg" among others

Fred Thomas should leave the vocals to pretty twee females... I was pissed off the one time I went to see them (and their all male band) and Fred sang lead on all songs.
