A MUSICAL PROJECT NEVER DONE BEFORE
Five people who never met. Five versions. One year in making.
Sand grains combined into one.
Sasha Raskin’s experiment was to make this time music in a
totally new way. For this project he composed different songs with
musicians who he never met via the internet based on one vocal
recording he sang. For a year he worked on the drafts sent to him
by ScottM from Canada, Tatsuya Shimazaki from Japan, and Fedepiano
from Italy. For the fourth song Raskin recorded Miri, a singer from
Israel whom he met only once. The final song was recorded from
scratch by Raskin at the end.
Sea Sand is about two basic human modes of being –
separateness and connectedness. The project is celebrating the
ability to overcome distances and nationalities and come together
to explore different points of view. The project connected people
who don’t know each other, and various musical pieces were brought
to life using the same words and vocals. While the songs and
musicians are unique, one basic core connects them all. Just like
sand grains. Just like human beings.
The song talks about the power of meditation, which
transforms human minds for over 2500 years. Simply by focusing on
the breath one can realize that while humanity is made from tiny
grains, it’s also one infinite giant sand. Raskin sings about his
experience during years of meditation. Be sitting down and quieting
his mind every single day it became clear to him that being
separate is just an illusion made up by the constant crazy dance of

The central theme of ‘Sea Sand’ is meditation as well as the
connection through the physical separation of people of different
nationalities, never met before, which can work together on a
common project: the title of the song is from there, tiny grains of
sand that together form a single element. The five songs of ”Sea
Sand” explore the sensitivity of mainly electronic sounds by the
musicians involved. (from Italian)
