Osnabrück/Germany, 1999 marks the beginning of SANKT OTTEN’s musical cruise. Stephan Otten turned the knobs and Carsten Sandkämper sang. German vocals met Slow-Mo Pop sounds. The acoustic Film Noir for beginners and advanced students of melancholy.
In the meanwhile, the vocals have been banned. ‘Instrumental’ is the mantra. But the modus
operandi remains unchanged. The neverending clash between Electronics and handmade music.
Postrock without Rock, Ambient meets Electronic Krautrock.
The holy alliance with the virtual sound surface. Menacing but not mean. The silence before the storm and the silence afterwards.

So so so so so so so so so goooooooood. Really, really excellent. I happened upon this by listening to one track on the bandcamp page and then grabbing the Gottes Synthesizer 2xLP from Experimedia on a whim. So glad that I did. Perfect music. Beautiful, energetic, and melancholy all at the same time. I am hooked.

Gotta check out the new stuff. Brings me back memories when I see the name of Sankt Otten in my library... Love the new band picture. Red shirts over red background, must be an irony over the green background digital processing thingy... and hey, "Post-rock without rock" just doesn't sound right. Originally, "post-rock" was defined as a term for all experimental kinds of music which use the same instruments as rock but do not fit in traditional rock aesthetics :P
