    Venue: Davies Symphony Hall
Tour: Distant Worlds II - More Music From Final Fantasy

Remarks: The second night of two outstanding performances. With Arnie Roth at the helm, Susan Calloway providing lovely guest vocals, and Nobuo just being there, there was no doubt that we were going to be in for another fantastic night full of music and memories. Although the two nights shared nine pieces, there was absolutely nothing wrong with hearing them twice. So hopefully nobody will mind me borrowing my remarks about them from last night either.

Opening~Bombing Mission (After the entries of Nobuo and Arnie, the giant screen faded into the familiar sight of a flower girl in the slums. Then perfectly timed with the crescendo, the Final Fantasy VII logo appeared. You could almost feel the awesomeness rising. …

Remarks: Almost a year since their last amazing performance, the San Francisco brings us all back for not just one, but two amazing nights of beautiful music; and I couldn't resist attending both nights. Last year it seemed like the entire place was full. This year, even with two concerts, the place was packed. Nobuo was once again in attendance which was indeed very exciting. They wisely escorted him from backstage to his seat to avoid the massive mobbing he created last year. Arnie Roth headed the orchestra again with his love and passion for this music. Not only did he bring along new pieces and arrangements, but he also managed to bring along the lovely Susan Calloway for some amazing vocal pieces.

Remarks: So this was my first symphony concert, and it was freaking amazing. It was so surreal to hear music from games I played 5, 10, even 15 years ago, come to life. All the arrangements were beautifully done, and they somehow pulled off the songs with vocals with only 4 vocalists. It was also very clear that Arnie Roth, the conductor, has such a passion for video games and their music, especially from Final Fantasy. He mentioned that there were three Square-Enix employees in the audience that was flown in especially for this concert. Also in the audience, was Nobuo Uematsu himself, who got crazy applause whenever he did anything.

Liberi Fatali (The giant screen above the symphony really helped bring the music to life, it made it seem as though we were experiencing it all over again, but in a crazy new way. …
