Sam began his career at an early age playing the womb harp. not content to play simple chords upon his womb harp, sam turned his hand to the post-rock genre that was sweeping through britain at the time only to realise that his sound was being limited by his pre-conceived notions of genre. breaking free of these ideas was as liberating to his music as it was to his sexuality and he soon began writing songs that truly challenged society’s views on the nature of music. An example of this edgy musicianship is his newest track ‘tommy photos’ which discusses the rise of a budding australian knife fighter. the song is recorded entirely in lo-fi (as is it’s housing album ‘tommy and his relation to other things’). The song features the oboe, flute, erhu, and standrad percussion.

Sam Manchester is known as a multi-instrumentalist and has notably included parts for the erhu, oboe, garbage can lid and recorded samples of the noise made when two people play ‘cup-and-ball’ competitively against each other on his debut. While a solo artist in the studio, an all female touring band helps him out while he’s on the road.
