The Salty Pirates were an indie/twee pop band from Halmstad, Sweden. They claimed to “fight the commercialism that’s infecting the music industry today” and put up all their music for free on their webpage

During 2008 the Salty Pirates changed their name and are now called The Weather in Sweden.

Where a male ejaculates in the eye of a female causing her to loose vision in one eye, and then kicking her in one leg so she hops about like pirate with a peg leg.

are you fucking kidding me!!!! I just got the weather in sweden disc at Popfest New England - and I hadn't made the connection! Rats - if I had known, I would have been a much better conversationalist! The Weather in Sweden disc is quite nice, by the way - I was so confused to hear "black minds, white lies" on it that I had to do some research - anyhow, thanks for dedicating academic beard to me - it felt pretty appropriate and hilarious at the time! yow!

I first heard Salty Pirates' Common Sense on the Dallas Does Indie podcast in spring of 07. Their very-indie music give-away on their website invited me to checkout more of their stuff. SP quickly became one of my top-10 discoveries for 2007. The sound is fresh, and the general tone takes me back to the pains of my teens. There is a certain charm to their angst. You need to hear this band.
