About this album

Saltillo is the new project of Menton J. Matthews, better known to the world as Sunday Munich. This new CD, five years in the making, is the sound of loss, the struggle for solace, and illimitable beauty. An impressive multi-instrumentalist and soundtrack composer, on Ganglion Matthews plays violin, cello, viola, piano, guitar, bass, banjo, and electronics. The end result is an immense sadness distilled into sound; echoing trip hop beats rolling over the sumptuous acoustic strings, downtuned piano notes punctuating the sparser arrangements. Surpassing the scope of Sunday Munich both in terms of technical production and pure cathartic emotion, Ganglion has refined Matthew’s songwriting and the final product is immensely personal and essential. This is necessary music for fans of achingly honest and visceral trip hop.

I had no idea this was reissued -- it was originally put out by Suspicious Records, a sublabel of rhythmic noise / abstract industrial label Hive Records in April 2006. good to see it's getting the exposure it deserves.

since the discovery (couple of days ago), Saltillo is getting most of the play in my Foobar list. one of the few reasons: its new, fresh, original and addictive.
