In late November of 1939 Stalin sent 27 divions, totalling 630 000 men into Finland who could only mobilize an army of 180 000. He expected a quick and easy campaign but the extremely cold winter took a heavy toll on the Soviet army and the Finnish soldiers, who applied small unit surrounding maneuvers called “motti tactics” masssacred the Soviet forces. Even though Finland was forced to cede the Finnish part of Karelian in the Moscow peace treaty they had ensure that the world would forever know the meaning of “Finnish Sisu”
