SOULHEAD is a Japanese urban contemporary duo consisting of sisters Yoshika (よしか, , born 20 July 1978?) and Tsugumi (つぐみ, , born 25 January 1980?) who hail from Hokkaido. The duo is signed to Sony Music Associated Records (Japan), a division of the Japanese branch of Sony, who also sent them one year abroad to Australia and New Zealand to improve their skills in English. They released their debut single “STEP TO THE NEW WORLD” on 24 July 2002 as a vinyl 12” single. So far they have released 18 singles, 3 regular albums, 2 remix albums and they have also been featured on 2 single. They have also appeared on various compilations. Soulhead’s sound is a blend between various genres such as soul, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, reggae and funk, and many of their lyrics are in English. They usually work with the production team known as Octopussy. They have also worked on releases with other Japanese artists such as Kumi Koda and SOUL’d OUT, and Yoshika is also a renowned song-writer who have worked with artists such as Sowelu. Their most recent single, Pray/XXX, debuted at #16 in the Oricon Daily 50 chart and was #22 on the Oricon Weekly Charts…

On February 24, 2010, after a 4 year break, they released a new album titled “SOULHEAD” under Avex Group, their new home. The album charted on the 40th position on the ORICON charts after a week of the release.

They announced a split a few weeks ago. Tsugumi will go solo whilst Yoshi promises to continue music (albiet making another genre-which judging by her stance on JUTW i very much doubt she will produce anything anytime soon.) Also noted that there is the possibility of Soulhead doing lives as a joint, but album wise is pretty much dead.

JUMP UP THE WALL is much better [2] Am I wishing the impossible hoping for a remix album at least good as CRYSTALLIZED was?

Their last album wasn't terrible by any means, but JUMP UP THE WALL is much better.

The prices are more or less a byproduct of Japan being quite an expensive country to live in; that said I echo your sentiments about digital music, -well I used to until Sugizo started putting out more stuff- It's just that in instances such as this one (where an album tanks quite badly) it seems to be a classic case of everybody waiting for a leak rather than perhaps doing the smarter thing (for those who want to listen to it) and setting up a joint fund or something else like that. Ah well, each to their own

Hmm... I didn't mean for that to be so long, and it makes me sound more annoyed or something than I actually am. Haha
