New York, New York” is a song written and performed by American alt-country musician Ryan Adams. It appeared on his 2001 album Gold. The New York, New York Songfacts explains that Adams was born and raised in North Carolina, where he was a member of the group Whiskeytown. He first moved to New York in 1999 to be closer to his girlfriend, who he wrote this about. In the song, she is “New York,” hence the line, “I still love you, New York.”

The song’s music video, showing Adams performing in front of the city’s skyline, was filmed four days before the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The song’s lyrics mention several lower Manhattan geographic references, including the intersection of Avenue A and 10th Street, Houston Street, and Avenue B.

Well, I shuffled through the city on the 4th of July
I had a firecracker waiting to blow
Breakin' like a rocket who makin' its way
To the cities of Mexico

" I don't get how it is "creepy" to see those two towers which have existed for centuries..." Centuries? They lasted less than 40 years.

"The music video is so creepy since the WTC is in the background, but this is such a good song." I don't get how it is "creepy" to see those two towers which have existed for centuries... The one "creepy" factor is that the said video was shot...Sept 7 2001...Yes just FOUR Days before the drama, even less... If only Ryan and others knew...That s why I m listening to this song only via audio and never ever watching this video again, hurts too much...

the album version is brillant but I do prefer the stripped down version that he did for live at abbey road in 2011 :)
