Matt basically left Blizzard with Blizzard North. Because he's not a sell-out.

"Overall, I'm disappointed with the atmosphere of the game (which is nowhere near its predecessors, that's because of music, which was a huge part of it, the art direction, and cheesy 'epicness', it just feels like a bit darker Warcraft), but the gameplay itself is so fucking addicting. Uelmen's music was about creating a dark atmosphere, this soundtrack lacks his pounding, tribal drums and dark ambient tracks mixed with various folk influences. It was unique and played with passion, while Diablo 3 music could as well be a soundtrack for another Warcraft game. [2] :(

Yeah, but the ambient tracks aren't anything special at all too. The music kinda suits the game, as it's more similar to (World of) Warcraft, even more than I thought it would be. It should be more dynamic though, Matt Uelmen's drums would be a better fit. Overall, I'm disappointed with the atmosphere of the game (which is nowhere near its predecessors, that's because of music, which was a huge part of it, the art direction, and cheesy 'epicness', it just feels like a bit darker Warcraft), but the gameplay itself is so fucking addicting. Having played the game (Server error aside...), There are actually a lot of awesome ambient tracks in the game (In the dungeons and such), most of which are not included in the CE soundtrack. Also the game is extremely fast paced so I would have to say the music does fit the gameplay very well, when you kill some important plot boss and the epic music cues up it feels very sayisfying.

I don't blame him, I'm only criticizing the music. I agree with you on that the audio side had to follow other changes, including the visual design of the game (which is rather controversial and a disappointing decision as well).
