The Camera Eye (11:01)

Cover of Moving Pictures

From Moving Pictures and 14 other releases

This song opens the B-side of Moving Pictures, which would be Rush’s last “epic” song, clocking in at almost eleven minutes. It is an attempt to capture the energy and moods of two of the English-speaking world’s great cities: New York (first verse) and London (second verse). The title and general themes of “The Camera Eye” lyrics were borrowed from the work of John Dos Passos, one of drummer/lyricist’s Neil Peart’s favorite authors.

The first 2.5 minutes is driven by synthesizers with percussion and lead guitar accents. The song consists of three fairly simple chord progressions, performed and produced masterfully.

I agree with the 5 or 6 song comments, but that's corporate radio. You can go all the way back to the first album, so many great songs.

RUSH!!! They're my favorite band! Amazing musicians. :o) [2] It sucks hearing the same 5 or 6 Rush songs on the radio when they have such amazing stuff like this on all their albums! [2]

There's 'something' about Rush. Something to do with Alex's guitar playing, their songwriting, their whole sound. It gets me every time. There's a warmth about Rush that I don't get from any other band......can't put my finger on it but I've never been dissappointed by any Rush I've ever heard, old or new. Very special.
