What a night, what a voice! The London public transport system did its best to stop me getting there but it failed and how glad i am of that.
Quite simply, Ruby Turner is one of the greatest singers Britain has ever produced (well, Britain plus Jamaica, i s'pose). She has one of those big, singular soul voices - the kind that have to be heard live. Her band were excellent too, especially the guitarist, supporting her as she whacked out blues, gospel, soul - all manner of great music (she particularly favoured her most recent few albums).
By the end of the show the crowd - though sadly depleted by the tube strike - was on its feet, dancing and singing along. And the standing ovation she got at the end was more than deserved.
