Biography

Rubik is a name of at least two acts:

1) A Finnish indie quartet
2) A London based producer/songwriter

1) Rarely has an indie rock band created such fuss all over the Finnish music scene as rubik. Formed in 2002 and already a sold-out mini-album up their sleeve, the band released their debut lp “Bad Conscience Patrol” to much anticipation in March 2007. The album instantly acclaimed critical praise with comparisons to works of Radiohead, Sigur Ros, dEUS et al. Their audience were stunned as well: “Bad Conscience Patrol” debuted number 7 in usually so heavy metal -ridden Fnnish official chart. It also gave them their first hit with the single “City & the Streets”

It’s been a fine ride after that: in 2007 alone rubik toured Finland, UK and Germany while performing at highly appreciated festivals such as Hultsfred, South by Southwest, Transmission and Eurosonic. The band has shared stages with acts like Mogwai, Autechre, Apostle of Hustle and Disco Ensemble - this also reflects the eclectism of their own material.

Combining hysterically schreeching guitars and twisted pop melodies with almost ambient-like soundscapes, their music is truly worth noting. music for hearts, head, soul and feet. You decide.

Indie rock aesthetics with pop accesibility, as they say.

2) Rubik is a London based producer/songwriter who started making music at the tender age of 15 when introduced to Cubase at college. Lapping up the chance to create a whole tune without having to communicate with anyone else was a dream come true for this young producer who went on to formulate his own particular brand of (un)popular music.

Got to admit, it was a grower after all. Their best album so far. SORRY GUYS. I still think the mixing would be better. Likke, if you check them live, the new songs are a lot more rockish. On album the guitars, and because of that, all the rocking is lacking. Otherwise, damn good pop album.

Ye, just realized I don't really like the term 'crap' as well. Sometimes it's nice to have something this easy and straightforward to listen to. Let's just say it's nothing special instead of it being partly crap. ;-)

It's nothing new, but that doesnt mean you have to bash it and label it 'crap'. Because it isn't. I like the constant flow of energy in the album and find it pretty enjoyable overall.

it doesn't sound fantastic, it sounds trendy and like all the other top indie artists. It suits the album though, but partly it's still crap. [2]

The bass on "Laws of Gravity" reminds me of mid/late 1980s Bruce Hornsby & The Range.

@freezegelman the album was recorded by Rubik, mixed by Ben H. Allen (and D. James Goodwin on some tracks) and mastered by Svante Forsbäck/Chartmakers.
