One trivia piece excluded from the LastFM biography is that Roy's trademark dark glasses were given to him by John Lennon after Roy realized he had forgotten his pair at the hotel. He continued to wear these glasses well into his career. And, a point I believe completely is that Roy was underrated beyond comprehension. He had an operatic voice, tremendous writing skills and - as elvis said on stage - was the greatest vocalist alive. He did it all. And he didn't have to steal music from the afro americans to make his money either as elvis did.
I can't for the life of me separate these songs, and Roy Orbison's style in general, from that feeling of something sinister lurking beneath the surface. That David Lynch-esque notion that everything isn't as it seems. The songs, the arrangements, the vocals are all too perfect.
