Biography

Roy Hill won a heat of the Melody Maker Rock contest in 1975 and signed to Arista Records in 1976.

‘Roy Hill’, produced by Gus Dudgeon was released in 1978. The album and two singles from it disappeared without trace, ‘I like I like I like’, an NME record of the week, followed suit. Dropped by Arista, Hill decided that success without a manager was unlikely but found that success with a manager could be equally elusive.

In 1985, a one-off gig with Chas Cronk at the Mulberry Tree in Twickenham became a weekly residency, part music, part music hall; the pair became Cry No More, gained a vociferous local following and recorded two albums for EMI, neither of which troubled the charts.

In 1994, Hill wrote a musical version of ‘The Fly’ which played two preview performances at the Garrick Theatre, London, before imploding.

He continues to write, record and perform and has just completed his second solo album, Switzerland.
