I remember lying in an old canvas tent when I was a boy, listening to John Peel play this song. The smell of crushed grass. The summer night. Still love it.

This song makes me think of Donald Bradman's last innings.

Great double tracked vocal, what a poet he is, one of the most perfect evocations of an England that may have never really existed but we all can recognise!

This is the song I'm listening to when I'm busy doing nuthin'. When I'm leaving the crease, nobobody will never know whether I'm gone. David Bedford was the arranger, and I feel like drowning, hearing the eerie atmosphere he created around Roy's tune.
