If There Is Something (6:36)

Cover of Thrill Of It All

From Thrill Of It All and 15 other releases

Arguably the definitive (first era) Roxy Music song.

Performed by all original founding members of the band, including Graham Simpson on bass, the song is a four part ‘symphony’. Opening with a playful honky-tonk piano, simple rhythmic bass-line and twangy guitar, the song soon transforms into Manzanera solo joined by MacKay’s saxophone, finally joined by Ferry’s impassioned vocals memorable for the line ‘I would do anything for you […] grow[] potatoes by the score’.

The song then moves back to an instrumental motif with MacKay’s saxophone playing off against Simpson’s bass, and back again to Ferry’s exaggerated fraught vocals.

The song appeared regularly in live sets.

If there is something that I might find
Look around corners try to find peace of mind I say
Where would you go if you were me
Try to keep a straight course not easy
