Rooney are a five-piece band from Los Angeles which formerly recorded for Geffen Records. The band is composed of Robert Schwartzman (vocals/guitar), Louie Stephens (keyboards), Taylor Locke (guitar/vocals), Ned Brower(drums/vocals), and Matthew Winter (bass guitar). The band is named after the character “Principal Ed Rooney” in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Their music is reminiscent of artists spanning from the 1960s to the 2000s. Although they have a distinct style, their sound has been compared to everything from The Beatles to The Cars to Blur. Having toured the nation with acts such as Weezer and The Strokes, Rooney has managed to capture elements from the past four decades and make them sound modern today.
Their Sleep Song was featured and played an important part in the movie The Chumscrubber’.
I’m Shakin’ was featured in the TV show The OC, when the characters go to see Rooney in concert.
On July 17, 2007 they released the album Calling The World. The album debuted #42 on The Billboard Top 100 Albums.
Rooney are now free agents, not attached to any record label. The new self-released album ‘Wild One’ is exclusively available only at live shows. The band started a winter tour on Friday November 27, 2009 in Los Angeles. The tour will go through most of December.
Rooney was also a band from Liverpool (UK) formed in 1997, that released three albums and various EPs and split up in the early 00s.
