Biography

1. Sacramento, CA-based indie-pop favorite Rocketship was the brainchild of singer/guitarist Dustin Reske, who formed the group in 1993 with bassist Verna Brock, keyboardist Heidi Barney and drummer Jim Rivas. After releasing the classic single “Hey Hey Girl” on the influential Bus Stop label, the group recorded 1996’s acclaimed A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness for Slumberland; the original line-up then dissolved, with Reske continuing Rocketship essentially as a solo project. The “Honey, I Need You” single followed in 1997; two years later, Reske resurfaced with the ambient-influenced twelve-inch Rocketship’s Garden of Delights.

“Here Comes…Rocketship” was released in 2006.

2. There’s a Japanese band called Rocketship with a song on the 1998 ラジカルパンチ! compilation on Groove Line Records.

Pretty depressing how these guys have faded into such obscurity. They're really great.

Amazing band, A Certain Smile is an outstanding album. Didn't even find about them from The Pains of Being Pure of Heart, but I'll sure check them out.

A Certain Smile reminds me of high school way more than I'd like it to. Used to listen to it obsessively a couple of years ago, still majorly bummed that Rocketship didn't play a proper show for the slumberland reunion.

Woohoo! Rocketship hit 300,000 plays on LastFM. very underrated band. I myself admit to not hearing of them or anything off of A certain smile a certain sadness until a few years ago.
