18 Feb 2011, 03:49 by clivestaples2Some days you wake up rested, hopeful, and glad that a few weeks ago on a freezing afternoon you purchased tickets to a dance party whose date has finally come around, at the beginning of an imminent thaw. Casual friends convene, drinks go down easy and before long you're ready to dance to the beat.
Robyn's sold-out show at First Avenue was that dance party, and it made bodies move in all the right ways. The chick knows how to throw a party, and after two openers everyone in the venue was more than ready to welcome her on stage. With little fanfare outside an ambient space introduction, she strolled onto a dark stage with her band in tow and took her place at center stage. The intro to Time Machine was just under the level of loud until the chorus hit, then everyone in the place was along for the ride.
It took a few songs for Robyn to hit her stride. She had canceled a show in Chicago not long before due to sickness, and at first she held back a little on stage. …

13 Jan 2011, 02:35 by BJ86Bridezilla - Hey Girl
Saw Bridezilla play for the first time earlier last year and fell in love over the course of their set.
Children Collide - My Eagle
It's catchy and stuff... really I just wish I had an eagle looking out for me.
Dead Letter Circus - One Step
I really wanted to vote for Cage, but it wasn't on the list :(
Duck Sauce - Barbara Streisand
Robyn - Don't Fucking Tell Me What to Do
I'm a sucker for the novelty songs. Although I suspect Barbara Streisand will be a more worst-ofs than best-ofs.
Groove Armada - Paper Romance
Cool song, sweet chorus, seems to get played everywhere though.
Flight Facilities - Crave you (Ft. Giselle)
Had this song stuck in my head for about a week before I could find out what it was called.
Operator Please - Volcanic
Liking operator Please's new, more grown-up, direction. This is by far my favourite from the new album.
k-os - Uptown Girl (ft. Emily Haines)
Emily Haines makes good song great.
5 Jan 2011, 15:02 by sllemsSo last year, my number one album turned out to win the mercury music prize.. not a word of thanks as yet from the xx... the bastards!
This year - albums were released from 3 of my all time favourite artists/bands, however, I'm just going to go for a top 5 this year, and top 10 songs.
So here goes:
5) Beach House - Teen Dream
Lovely dreamy album. Doesn't work as well live as it does on CD, but the lead singers voice is powerful and fits the music perfectly.
4) Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
The follow up to one of my favourite albums ever, and over 5 years in the making. The problem for Sufjan, it seems, is that he wanted avoid producing a replica of Illinois. As a result, he ditched the banjos, and embraced wierd noises and electronics. The effect is fantastic, the album is dense with layers and sounds and interesting structures/time signatures.
Whilst this album produces a fantastic listening experience…

23 Dec 2010, 20:31 by Confessions872010 has been the best year for music for a long time. I remember 2007 and 2008 being particularly great, too, but I wasn't expecting this year to be so good. This list was incredibly hard to compile and has probably been thought about way too much over the past month. Even the albums that don't make the top ten have all been so thoroughly enjoyable to listen to, so if your favourite seems quite low, it's only because the standard was so frickin' high all round. There's all the usual suspects featured here and a few others. My top three are almost too difficult to separate (they are all equally my top album of the year), yet this list demands a distinct order and a distinct order is what it will have.
I'll begin with a few albums that didn't quite make the mark.
Vampire Weekend / Contra
The biggest disappointment of the year, along with the album directly below.
M.I.A. / MAYA
Best Coast / Crazy for You
Probably the single most obvious example on this list of an album that is as catchy as it is annoying. …

18 Dec 2010, 16:42 by ColorMeSexy#25 Infinite Arms - Band of Horses
Twas good, some really catchy songs, some not so much. 'Dilly' is a beautiful track with the oddest timing it's nothing but charming.
#24 The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night - The Besnard Lakes
Huge instrumentation and some really epic feelings. 'Albatross' is one of the best songs ever written, it makes me want to do good things / bad things.
#23 Two Thousand And Ten Injuries - Love Is All
First of all the name of the album is awesome. Secondly it has some really great tunes. Enough said.
#22 Illumination - Miami Horror
There are some really fantastic tracks in this. 'Sometimes' is so involving I can't get over it. The album feels like I'm watching 80's fantasy movies in the best way possible.
