Biography

Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation is a British hard rock band formed by former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant in 2002. It currently consists of Plant (vocal, guitar), Justin Adams (steel guitar, mandolin), John Baggott (keyboards), Clive Deamer (drums), Billy Fuller (bass) and Skin Tyson (lead guitar). Several members of the band were former touring members for Portishead and at one time the band featured once-and-future Cure guitarist Porl Thompson

Plant’s attraction and affection to the music of Morocco, the Atlas region and beyond and his lifelong leaning towards the psychedelic indo-rock of West Coast USA, led to a new collision of styles and colours aka Strange Sensation.

Their first album together ‘Dreamland’, received great critical acclaim and two Grammy nominations in January 2003.

In recent times, Plant has recorded with Afro Celt Sound System and along with Skin and Justin Adams, travelled to South Sahara, North of Timbuktu in Mali to participate in the 2nd Festival of the Desert, a gathering of African Saharan and assorted soul musicians including Oumou Sangare, Ali Farka Toure, Tinariwen and Tidawt. This project ultimately became a CD compilation to be found on the Harmonia Mundi label.

2003 saw the prestigious release of the definitive Plant retrospective, ’Sixty Six to Timbuktu’, which included a selection of Plant’s solo work from his first recording date to his appearance in Mali.

"I wish Robert Plant would record a new album with them. Does anybody know something? Is the Strange Sensation only a one-shot project?" -> not really, the album Dreamland was actually the first album with the Strange Sensation, though not credited on the sleeve as such. Only inside in the booklet..

Anybody know if they'll do anything in the future? Liked Raising Sand and looking forward to the follow-up but would really love to see Robert do a new album and tour with the Strange Sensation.

Doesn't matter if it's with Alison Krauss or the Strange Sensation or his old Zeppelin classics, whatever Robert touches these days seems to turn to gold. This album is great!

I saw them last night in Istanbul. It was absolutely amazing. Robert Plant(aka GOD) can sing&scream like the old days. They blew us away. They played several Zeppelin classics among the Sensation stuff: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You,Black Dog,Gallows Pole,Goin' To California and Whola Lotta Love.
