Biography
Greater Toronto Area, ON (2006 – present)
Robert Desmond Band is a Canadian rock band based in the Greater Toronto Area, ON and formed in the late fall of 2006. The band features Robert Desmond (rhythm guitar and lead vocals), Matt D’Alvise (bass guitar and backing vocals), Peter Thivy (keyboard and synthesizer), Dave Hodges (drums), and Henry Dunn (lead guitar and backing vocals). The line-up formerly included Ian Buchanan (guitar) and Jason Hicks (keyboard).
Desmond met Ian and Matt while playing with their cover band at the Hard Rock Café in downtown Toronto. He was impressed with Ian’s performance, and equally impressed with their drummer, the multi-talented Matt (who was also an MC for his own hip-hop crew project).
Desmond later met Dave at a party in a time when Dave’s band had been looking for a vocalist. The search didn’t pan out. When Dave later bumped into Ian at a bar in Dundas, ON, he was eventually led to become the drummer for RDB. His metal music drumming background made it easy to learn the new songs; it took him only a week to learn the entire album.
The band toured the Philippines in 2008 where they played shows to raise money for elementary schools. After the tour, Jason, the band’s keyboardist, parted ways with the band. The band then met Thivy, a classically trained keyboardist and piano player. With Thivy’s addition, the line-up became complete.
