The Lions of Tsavo as a working entity crawled out of Columbus, Ohio in the year 2003, created from the ashes of Ambassador 990, Montreal Curse, and the Trem .. who worked on their last album with Steve Austin of Today is the Day. Being pared down to a trio from their former projects, they were drawn towards an altogether heavier sound akin to being mowed over by a line of tanks.

After the Berlin-based doomsters SHEPHERD had disbanded in 2004, two of the band members – guitarist Oliver Bojoski and drummer Tobias Engl – decided to continue with their musical trip. However, this time the two long-time partners in crime had a more extreme approach in mind that would take them beyond the doom and stoner horizon.

With the growing desire to play their own music not fit for their cover band, GPS, Maxime Bellerose (ex-Lacrimae Mortalium), Paolo Di Stefano and Mathieu Savage decided to get together with drummer Pierre-Hugues Rondeau (ex-Hope&Horror), to try and fill this void.
