"Back Off Boogaloo" is a 1972 single released by Ringo Starr. The song was a hit in the U.S. reaching #9 on the US Hot 100 and achieving Starr's best position in the UK Singles Chart, where it reached #2 (blocked from #1 only by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' version of "Amazing Grace"). This is one of the few songs written solely by Starr. It was produced by George Harrison, who also plays lead guitar on the recording.

@Eye_Gore - Maybe so, there are many versions of this song recorded. Ringo had a lot of music ppl drop in studio to guest-play when he made his albums. The one playing now for me has Harry Nilsson singing background on the "Stop And Smell The Roses" version of "...Boogaloo". Harry produced the album,I recall.

I'm probably wrong, but I swear that's Frank Zappa singing background.

Is the rumour about Marc Bolan co-writing and performing on this song true?
