I like music. F politics and history. Strauss' music is good enough for me. He's long dead but his music remains. If he committed sins in life, he's probably paying for them now. Let it lie...........

I don't totally agree with you Scili, but then I don't totally disagree with you either. I think the question is whether the art is being produced for the sake of propoganda or for art's sake. In Strauss' case, I think it was being produced for the sake of art. As for musiklubber's insane statement about "letting them escape," what would you have done - forced them to stay and live in the insanity? Would that aplly to those of us who escaped the Communists, as well, because we had had to live under them until we were able to escape?

who cares who or what he was representing. art is art - and politics are(is) politics

From what I've been told by those who lived under the Nazi's anyone who tolerated them did so to stay alive.... they gassed their own people, too. What's crazy is that it was allowed to happen in the first place, by governments that professed democracy and justice. This country supported Nazi's allowing them to escape and help us win the race to Space. I'm realizing in my old age, that everyone compromises his or her beliefs... on a daily basis...
