• Tuesday Ten: Side-Projects

    18 Nov 2008, 19:18 by amodelofcontrol

For this week's Tuesday Ten, I'm turning my attention to the side-project, an often-maligned pasttime for many artists. For the avoidance of doubt, here is what Wiki has to say about what a side-project is:

A side project is a project undertaken by one or more persons already known for their involvement in another band. It can also be an artist or a band temporarily switching to a different style.

Usually these projects emphasize a different aspect of that person's or that band's musical interests that they feel they cannot explore within the boundaries established by their main project. Side projects can later become full-time endeavours, but shouldn't be confused with quitting a band for a solo career or another band.

So with that tidied up, I have no doubt that some of the bands/artists I include will be disputed as to whether they were side-projects or not. Feel free to argue your case or add others...

  • My Music Year - 2007

    1 Jan 2008, 20:02 by MurderCapital

OK, this is my music year of 2007 and some short thoughts. Don't agree? I respect that, just don't start bitching about it, make your own list.

Tim Armstrong - A Poets Life
Ska punk at it's best, say what you want about him, but Tim Armstrong can write songs.

Apulanta - Eikä vielä ole edes ilta
Another solid Apulanta album. I still don't understand the lyrics, but who cares, the music is good.

    Tila Tequila - Various Songs/Singles
What a total joke, go back posing for nude pictures it's the only talent you have babe.

    Chimaira - Resurrection
I never got into this band or any of these so called 'metalcore' bands, no matter how hard I try. it's not bad at all, but it doesn't move me, it's all screaming for nothing.

    The Stooges - The Weirdness
The first studio album Iggy Pop and The Stooges have put out since 1973's "Raw Power". Does it live up to any hype (was there any?), well i would say yes, this is what The Stooges is and should be.

  • Orgasm Death Gimmick - Complete information

    26 Nov 2007, 13:35 by Dreameress

Woah! I seem to have put Orgasm Death Gimmick on the map in here.. XD.

Orgasm Death Gimmick? What the heck are you talking about?
A band, obviously. A dead and gone one, even.

Aha. So why are you making a journal about a dead band?
Since I wrote the artistbio, started to listen more to it, and put a link to it from Richard Kruspe's biopage, I got more and more questions for lyrics, music and everything more.
I'm sorry to say that there's barely anything to find about Orgasm Death Gimmick on the internet. I'm afraid I've already found éverything there is.
So I decided to make a journal with all the info I could find about this old German band.

That's clear. So tell me, what is all the fuzz about?
As you might know, the man behind all this is Richard Kruspe. He is the same guy as the one playing the lead-guitar in Rammstein. And he also is the leading man behind Emigrate. He's quite a bit popular, - I might be mistaken to say - especially with the ladies. - Don't burn me! -

  • Unknown Artists II - ODG

    18 Oct 2006, 17:33 by Dreameress

Orgasm Death Gimmick was a life-band from East Berlin in the underground-scene of the former DDR. The band combined parts of various types of music, like Metal, Jazz, Grunge, Reggea and Funk.
Orgasm Death Gimmick was formed in May 1991 by Sven Kruspe, (now better known as Richard Kruspe guitarist from Rammstein) who played the guitar. At first he formed a band with Sascha Moser and Franziska Schubert (also known as Franzi Underdrive) from the Inchtabokatables. Franziska left and Martin Rauer joined. After a while Dietmar Schmidt also joined them, and they formed Orgasm Death Gimmick.
The line-up was by then as follows:
    Dietmar Schmidt; singer, trumpet player
    Martin Rauer; bass
    Sven Kruspe (Richard Kruspe); guitar
    Sascha Moser; drums
The band played and recorded their tapes in a studio Sven built up with Paul Landers (Feeling B. then, now guitarist of Rammstein). Sometimes it was too cold to play guitar in the studio, which led to a bag pipe part in the song Say Nothing. …
