Richard “Ribbs” Gibbs was the keyboard player for the New Wave band Oingo Boingo from 1980 to 1984. He was also a session player, performing on over 150 albums for artists as diverse as War, Tom Waits, Robert Palmer, and Aretha Franklin. He also started the band Zuma II, which had an eponymously titled record released by Pasha/CBS Records. He has appeared live with Korn, The Staples, Chaka Khan, and Oingo Boingo.

Like his former bandmate Danny Elfman, Gibbs has embarked on a life of scoring movies and television shows. He has written the scores for over fifty films (Dr. Dolittle, Step Into Liquid, Say Anything and Queen of the Damned, among others) and acted as musical director and composer for various television shows, including Muppets Tonight!, The Simpsons, and the Battlestar Galactica miniseries.

He most recently worked with the indie-pop band Eisley, recording and producing their second full-length album Combinations at his Woodshed studio in September of 2006.

too bad he didn't continue on the show. The miniseries soundtrack is just perfect, ten times better than McReary's stuff ...

The main title song is great, but I prefer McCreary's scores :) But you're right, the main title of McCreary is not as good as Gibbs'. If you saw Someone to Watch Over Me, you all will see, how much more McCreary done to the show than Gibbs. But, of coure, it doesn't diminish Mr. Gibbs' greatness ;)

If single songs could win Nobel Prizes... To Kiss or Not to Kiss, should win one for touching upon some of the most amazing emotions of harmony and serenity that it gives to us. This is simply a breath taking piece... I am IN LOVE with this score. It is such a big part of my life that it's automatically become apart of me. I find my self in this piece, which I rarely do and with only a handful of scores, can I find my self in. I've been listening to scores ever since I was 5 and I must admit, this one is unbelievably unique. Seriously beautiful in a near perfection kind of a way. It is an important song for me both personally, historically and emotionally. This is truly a genuine moment where something just crystalizes into the most perfect example of what it represents to you. And for me it represents a lot. Thank you Richard for giving us all this love in something as beautiful as To Kiss or Not to Kiss...

Thanks to a youtube subscriber. Here the lyrics for To Kiss or Not ti Kiss. The song to kiss or not to kiss is actually a piece of ancient Hindu scripture an upanishad. Asato Ma Sat Gamaya Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya Mrityor Ma Amritam Gamaya Lead Us From the Unreal To Real, Lead Us From Darkness To Light, Lead Us From Death To Immortality I'm addicted to this song. So frakking gorgeous.

I miss the Main Title from the miniseries. I wish Bear had incorporated it into the series' soundtrack. Oh well. If we got "Roslin and Adama" by giving it up, so be it.

Battlestar Galactica soudtrack is awesome. I took my mp3 player with me and walked away from my home village lights at christmas evening so I could see the night sky and the stars. Cold waves went throught my back and I felt so alive and at the same time so small. I'm going to do it again and this time I'm going to spend some more time under the universe!

I believe he cooperated with Bear McCreary on the miniseries score. My favourite song of Gibbs is Are You Alive?/Battlestar Galactica Main Title, and i think it's a pity we don't hear it on the show any more. It's the *main title* ffs :)

People don't appreciate this fella enough. The music for the BSG Miniseries is equal to Season 1, 2 and 3 in emotions and depth. He might have had a slightly different approach to it, but I enjoy it just as much as Bear McCreary.
