4 Mar 2009, 07:14 by hillbilly13Here are 25 albums that changed my life, or had an impact anyway. This is a list I made for facebook.
1,2. Lester "Roadhog" Moran and His Cadillac Cowboys "Alive at the Johnny Mac Brown High School" & Midnight Star "No Parking on the Dance Floor". These were the first two albums I bought with my own money. I earned a couple bucks cutting grass and my dad took me to The Music Room in Greer. I don't know what made me pick these two but I spent all my money that day and I think it set the stage for the wide range of music I've enjoyed since then.
3. The Beastie Boys "License to Ill" I remember getting ready for school one morning I was in the the kitchen and the radio was on rock 101 WCKN. I was just about to walk out when "Fight for Your Right" came on. It was the best song I'd ever heard! I like Paul's Boutique" better but "License to I'll" was so new and I think had a bigger effect.
26 Nov 2007, 04:11 by shitgrinsinnerI might think i'm a genius and other's opinions on music fall short of the correct answer i.e. MY opinion. I say this in good fun, but then again who am i apologizing to?
I come from a punk rock crowd where youre basically crucified for liking anything after 1977. its a sad realization when it seems theres too many rules even in punk rock.
So i scoured for the OTHER punk. yes, you know what im saying, with more women's involvement, more costuming, more odd indescribable kinda of music and more musicianship. I found punk cabaret/dark cabaret/sepiachord. I found these are the genres that can't fit easily or neatly into a box, can't be giftwrapped. Exactly what i was looking for. Circus freaks and dirty blues alike. I Think David Bowie and Nina Hagen must have been secretely brewing this concoction of music and recently released the bats.
On my never ending quest, I've singled out what i think are the best of the genre. i was going to also make a list of the what i consider the worst, but that would make me look like a dick.
20 Nov 2007, 06:39 by object88I figure I'd better write something about Golem!'s show last week before it completely escapes me to do so. In a word: fantastic. Showing up early and trying to find a way to kill time was well worth it. Bicycling through SF after the show, completely drenched in sweat was well worth it. Missing the last BART train and regular-running bus out of the city was well worth it. Missing the first late-night bus was well worth it. Dropping about $15 for a Denny's burger and fries to fill my stomach at 1:30am, and almost missing the next late-night bus in doing so, was well worth it. Not getting to sleep until after 3am was well worth it.
I didn't catch the name of the first performer, a one-man synth-based experimental act, an odd choice to open for the following bands, but I enjoyed his show. A tall, well built man, he was decked out in a nice suit and hunched over his knobs and whatnot; made me think of a modern-day mashup of Dr. Frankenstein and his assistant, Igor.

7 Aug 2007, 04:53 by cogsturningfor a long time, ever since i was little really, id really liked carnivals. not so much the sickening and less-than-trustworthy food or the life-threatening rusty rides but more the romantic image of them. like old fashioned stuff. theres just something about it. and part of that has been the music, or any music that brings about a similar old fashioned image. i never really pursued it tho, it was kind of a closet interest. maybe i didnt think id find anything, maybe i wasnt sure how to look, maybe i thought it was too weird. i dunno.
but i decided that this here is the interwebs and i can find anything. so i put my faith in the people of last.fm (many of whom tag things terribly) to find some new stuff. i searched user tags for 'circus' (and also found 'dark circus') and from there 'cabaret' (and thus 'dark cabaret') and somehow i ended up with 'gypsy'. i didnt put all my faith here tho, but also in demonoid. people who put descriptions in thier uploads rule.

29 Aug 2006, 11:29 by The_CouchI've had another hilarious dream recently, which I'll journal up when I can be bothered. Right now, though, I'm going to have a bit of a rant.
Some cunt just forced me to have a motorbike accident, I'm so fucking angry.
I ride a Yamaha DT175 (slow-arse dirt bike, but does me fine till I head overseas). The headlight's pretty dim, since it's an old bike. This guy he was following me down Eatons X-Ing road, flashing his lights now and then. Obviosly he thought I didn't have my light on, so he kept this up for about 4kms. Yeah, right man, i fucking get it, my headlight is fucked..
i turned onto clear mountain road and he followed me, right up close behind, like just metres away, with his headlights on high beam. I couldn't see a fucking thing with his lights in my mirrors, and ran off the road. Had a bit of a crash, tore a chunk out of my ankle and RUINED MY NEW SOCKS! Furious... but it gets worse.
The cunt didn't even stop! just drove past me slowly, then off down the road. What an arsehole.
