Although I'm not at all a skanatic, or whatever it is you kids call it these days, Reel Big Fish managed to change my perspective of the genre. UNSW's Roundhouse facilitated America's most impressive ska/punk group & a few hundred mid-pubescent skatanists, some of them dodging through the crowd in a run from securty guards, some of them sporting "Stay Staunch" t-shirts, silently holding their ground on the floor. I only turned up halfway through defiant punks Guttermouth, whom did not impress me with "I'm happy to walk off this stage right now, I don't give a fuck" and "you look like one of those African tribal guys". But they were received well by the audience - maybe it's just me who looks for strong musicianship in a group (but then again, what's punk all about?)
Either way, once the headliners bounced onstage & giggled through 'it's not so bad being trendy…

1 Oct 2006, 04:40 by dreamstormSigh, today was not a very good day for my love life. Most painful, actually. I have been moping and repeatedly listening to my "Love is Evil and Needs to Die Right Now" playlist which helpfully outlines of all the ways relationships are annoying:
Pick Up the Phone
Don't They Have Payphones Wherever You Were Last Night
Meat and Potatoes
(Putting up with bad sex is very painful.)
("He said 'It's all in your head,' and I said, 'So's everything,' but he didn't get it" -- one of my favorite lyrics of all time)
I Hate It That I Got What I Wanted
(I Can't Seem To) Make You Mine
Is This Love?
Ellen And Ben
Too Fast Driving
The Calender Hung Itself
Grace Is Gone
One Foot in Front of the Other
Where Have You Been?
By this point in the playlist, I have stopped pretending that anything other than crappy emo-pop-punk is going to make me feel better:
6 Jul 2006, 19:10 by korexWell, last night I went to a live show with at Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac, MI, near Detroit. The place looks like a cathedral which is notable. I was with two of my friends, and we had a pretty good spot about 10 feet away from the front railing, which was about 10 more feet away from the stage.
First up was Whole Wheat Bread, three black guys from Jacksonville, FL. They started it off with a little rap (very smooth) and went into their punk rock stuff, which was very high-energy. One of my friends bought their CD, so I'll have to gank it. They had the crowd chant "I love black people" and "f--k those crackas", which was interesting because most everyone was white and chanting it anyway.
Transition was next, and they were pretty much a crappier version of New Found Glory. Their bassist faced the back a lot of the time, their singer had the same lean-over-the-amp pose the entire set, and their music just wasn't anything special. They couldn't keep the crowd. It was very bad, but bearable. …
7 Apr 2006, 14:02 by MetroPanicI have no idea how this game is actually meant to be played, but I just had Winamp randomly select a song for each question, so you all can too.
What do people assume when they first look at me?
Track: I Believe I Can Fly
Artist: Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Comment: I'm just that inspiring. Go me.
What Will be a big challenge in life for me?
Track: Russian Roulette
Artist: Tsunami Bomb
Comment: I'm going to have an interesting life.
Am I a good boyfriend/girlfriend?
Track: Where Have You Been?
Artist: Reel Big Fish
Comment: "What makes you think I ever want you again?"; oh yeah, I'm a great girlfriend. I'm even better if I'm the girl he's singing about.
Do I have a Secret Admirer?
Artist: Minus the Bear
Comment: Aww, isn't that nice? I do have a secret admirer (unless Winamp is lying to me), and they might even be a monkey.
Will I ever become manically depressed in my life?
