Biography
There are at least two bands named Receiver.
1) Started out in about 1985 messing with drum machines from lack of ability to play the drums.realizing i could be a bassist with a sequencer aswell i started to get rhythm tracks together and were then played out on the now defunct garry clail sound system for the on u sound label. from here i went on to help garry co write the follow up single to his top 10 hit “human nature “,the record being called “escape ” which also got to some charty posistion around the forty’s i think. since that i sort of done my own thing, working for bristol entrepreneur fat paul on the swarf finger label releasing a 7’’ called “and then you die ” under the name “receiver”also remixing bristol band the brilliant corners and also remixing the later formed experimental pop band (homesick)album. just before this i put out a tune called run(you can run but you can’t hide ) on marabou records in 1994 on a d+b tip under the name” ratman ” Then came cup of tea records and the dreaded london term trip hop, then i produced two 12’ of assorted slow beat /dub/jungle workouts also under the name ratman . luckily receiver seemed to fit also into the cup of tea vibe at the time and went on to record an album (chicken milk) and another couple of 12’s for the label. i think looking back one of the most enjoyable things for me that came out of all of this was to remix other peoples tunes, which included alpha, mr scruff, smith and mighty, purple penguin, static sound system , the egg, also had the fun of having a track on a play station game once (rollcage) which was weird to play, and done a few small film bits and pieces.
