The collective has been initiated in late 2001 on the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague by the Image And Sound students. The coaches were Robert Pravda and Stefan Brys, both graduated from the Image And Sound department.

At the beginning, the first 15/16 people attending the sessions were the students of the department itself, including some students from other departments and academies as well.

They’d use every object around them to construct an instrument, focusing on electro-acoustic improvisation and performance. Initially, the sessions were recorded with couple of condenser microphones straight onto DAT-tape. The first big opportunity to perform in front of audience, was the ID11 festival in Rotterdam 2002.
W.E.I.M. (as the group was called at the time) was the part of the “sound” day. They brought their own constructing material that consisted out of iron pipes from which they later build a 2x2 meter cube. The performance was very well accepted by the audience.

The line-up of the group has changed constantly over the years. Although there are core-members that are active nowadays. By time, the process of making sounds has changed and developed in many ways. From a Duchamp ready-made metallic instruments, all the way to the latest models of Apple laptop computers. Nevertheless, the spirit behind the creative process, has remained truly experimental in its constant quest for ambient landscapes and harsh sonic battlefields.
