Real PD are a bedroom band with a small but loyal cult following, playing music in the synthpop idiom and with a pronounced lo-fi aesthetic. (To the unitiated, that means they sometimes sound a bit crap, but people like them for it). The band began in 1984 with founder member Alistair Cumberford, who joined forces with bassonist (oh yes!) Guy Wigmore and keyboardist and vocalist Mark Cahill in 1985 when they began work on their first ensemble album ‘Love & Stuff’, a classic of the bedroom pop genre. With the arrival of Adrian Brailsford (the only boy in Music class with Perfect Pitch, no less) in 1987 they hit upon their trademark ramshackle acoustic piano/ electronic keyboard sound and stayed together until 1991. Real PD reformed in 2004, without Guy but with 3 new members, ex-Clay axeman Richard Entwhistle, vocalist Claire Donnelly and bassist Steve Smith, who together with vintage PD guitarist Sean Naughton, helped to forge a new 21st Century take on the PD sound for the new album Burn Your Flag With Pride, which has a September 2005 release date.
