Biography

If NASA and the Beatles had a love child, it would be Real Lunch. In A.D. 2004, Max Perenchio (guitar) and Ryan Brady (piano) quit their bands after they realized their irrational love for Sir Paul McCartney should somehow be channeled from their boxers into music. They joined Jake Serek (bass) and Brian Selke (drums) to form Chicago-based Real Lunch, inadvertently asking to be compared with food puns for the rest of their career.

With influences ranging from Ben Folds to Squeeze, the band’s songs pleasantly latch onto your brain like a clingy ex-flame. Real Lunch’s performances feature vocal arrangements plucked from the ’60s and ’70s with a healthy dose of pop hooks that will get your foot tapping and your ears begging for more.

After perusing through scores of baby name books, emo poetry and bathroom graffiti, the four members thought up the name Real Lunch - a combination of John Lennon’s “Real Love” and “Naked Lunch,” a book by William S. Burroughs banned in many parts of the U.S. during the ’60s for its obscenity. Similarly, the band has been banned from every bath house in the continental U.S.

Once the band realized they couldn’t keep paying for extras to appear at their shows and still make a reasonable profit to buy Converses, Real Lunch released a free album on the Internet (www.reallunch.bluni.com) and invested in kleptomania. They appear (though usually uninvited) at popular local venues in the Chicagoland area.
