Queens, New York City (1980 – 1989, 2006 – present)

Reagan Youth is an American band started by singer Dave Rubinstein (Dave Insurgent) and his friend and guitarist Paul Bakija in Queens, New York City in early 1980. They have been labeled a band, but are more commonly cited as an pivotal band in introducing the style of to the East Coast scene. Their name is a word play on Hitler Youth. An important group in the New York/New Jersey hardcore scene, they performed very regularly at CBGB and toured the U.S. extensively, often with other early bands such as the Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains and Misfits. The Beastie Boys and Rancid, among other significant successful and groups, have cited Reagan Youth as an influence.

Starting in 1980, they were in existence for almost ten years, but only managed to release one album during their existence as a band (in 1984): originally titled Youth Anthems for the New Order, it was rereleased as Reagan Youth (Vol. 1) by the small independent label New Red Archives in 1989. This album eventually sold 40,000 copies. A second album, titled Volume 2, recorded in 1989, was completed and released in 1990, after the official breakup of the band. Both are still available on vinyl, as well as a CD titled A Collection of Pop Classics that combines both records. A collection of live recordings was issued in 1998 as Live and Rare.

Known for their use of Ku Klux Klan and Nazi Party imagery, the band expressed its strongly anti-fascist and anti-racist political views through ironically donning actual uniforms from the two hate groups.

Reagan ended a major national recession and assisted Gorbachev in ending the cold war. Dave Rubinstein became a heroin addict and killed himself. Things like Iran-Contra should be remembered but he pales in comparison to the blunders made by W and like Chomsky said, any president since WWII could be tried and hung for warcrimes committed by their administrations, from Truman to Obama. And btw the corporate takeover seen now mostly occurred in the 90s, which Clinton oversaw. Don't get me wrong, R.Y. has some alright songs, but the music is nothing special. They're a 80s punk zeigeist and nothing more.

man, i really prefer live & rare over studio albums. Pauls guitar playing is amazing, raw, dirty and fucked up. thats how every damn hc record should be.

yeah, reagan pretty much started the corporate take over. it was during his time that corporations gained more power overall than any government in the world, and all got their hands in the pot. He not only allowed it, but encouraged it. Now im all with you panterman about presidents being puppets as far as decision making, its all just determined with how much you can stoop the puppet to agree to. Reagan was stooped the most, and for the greatest gain for those pulling the strings.all the while, him being the model poster boy for america, allowing it all to go on without a hitch, and without question. He gives bush a run for his money. Corporations like fox news and wal*mart now tell GOVERNMENTS what is acceptable, what is legal, and what to do with people, all the while turning rivers black and spreading fear to push product, and if any country doesnt like that, the corporation will just fund someone ad campaign for such poster boys as reagan, and all is (believed to be) well again.

This band is so phenomenal and was so ahead of their time in their scene. They didn't have a single bad song, all of them were so great and classic in the own unique way.

quite the judging type huh? very interesting, that was the kinda filth i was hoping for: if that'd all be true it'd make Reagan Youth an even greater band. Because they'd be correct in their main concern. But i still doubt it in a way, I actually don't believe any american president in the last hundred years or so has had that much power. I'm not a sucker for conspiracy shit but I think they're all just puppets, and where the real power lies is a secret. Specially with this one, Reagan would make a great puppet being an ex-moviestar and everything. Your everage dumb american loves the guy.

Reagan was a fucking nazi. He didn't have a problem with killing protesters. He kept telling people that things were fine, although the economy was shit. You could try using something besides wikipedia, don't be lazy.

Watch the documentary "American Hardcore" and you'll understand. The 80's hardcore movement was all about being different and not choose to be like everybody else. And Reagan was a republican. He became the new president after Jimmy Carter (democrat) who was talking about peace and anti racism, then this stupid new guy comes and his people, often refered to as "The White Male Order" in the documentary. He was there to take back this canservative shit, and everything was about The American Dream and shit that IS NOT TRUE. I'm not old, not even from USA. Reagen can often be compared to G.W. Bush. Fucking morons both of them.
