Reagan’s father taught her to play guitar at the age of six. She recorded her first album at the age of 17, and made her first appearance at Nashville’s renowned Blue Bird Cafe that same year. From that point she played guitar for a touring gospel band, sang country covers as part of a house band at a roadhouse in Pikeville, KY, and fronted blues and rock cover bands throughout East TN and Southwest VA.
After landing her 2006 release, Never Looking Behind, onto Americana Highway’s top 30 albums of the year, she followed with Right Now. The compilation of 11 originals includes the story of “Clifton Branham,” Appalachian bad man via his own memoirs, and details a woman’s nightmare of strip-miners disrupting the resting dead after a pressured sale of her family’s land in “The Graves.” The lead track is told through the through the eyes, ears, and fears of two young children living daily in an abusive home in “Ready to Run.”
David Brewer of the High Country News wrote, “There’s something about good singer-songwriters’ abilities that make you believe they’ve lived their lyrics. The intimate details of their less-than perfect lives wrapped in engaging melodies that help listeners feel they know the artists are a must. Simply put, if you can’t believe them, then they aren’t doing their job. There is something about the unpretentious voice and style of Reagan Boggs that comes through her tales of complicated relationships and memories both fond and forlorn.” She is a storyteller with a voice that can captivate a room.
Reagan was recently featured on Mountain Stage with one of her great influences, Darrell Scott. Others that have directed her style include; Chris Knight, Slaid Cleaves, Loretta Lynn, Bruce Robinson, Julie and Buddy Miller, Patty Griffin, Hayes Carll, James McMurtry and Lucinda Williams.
